Linopirdine and XE991 prevented cytochrome c release in NGF-deprived sympathetic neurons. Sympathetic neurons were immunostained with anti-cytochrome c antibody, and the neurons that retained a punctate cytochrome c staining pattern (intact cytochrome c) were counted under different conditions. CHX (1 μg/ml) and BAF (50 μm) were used as positive and negative control, respectively. In medium supplemented with linopirdine (20 μm) and XE991 (10 μm), >90% neurons maintained intact cytochrome c.
