Workflow of the cascaded ensemble, which comprises two stages. First, we perform classification with CNN-learned and handcrafted features individually, and if the two classification scores are consistent, a binary decision (mitosis/nonmitosis) will be made directly. Second, for those instances whose individual classification scores are highly inconsistent, we classify them again by combining their CNN and handcrafted features.
