Liver perfusions were carried out as detailed in the legend to Figure 2. The output of 13C-labelled pyruvate or lactate is the sum of the 13C enrichment (MPE/100) in M2 and M3 isotopomers of these metabolites multiplied by total output (nmol · min−1 per g of wet mass). Results are means ± S.D. for three independent liver perfusions per study group. *P < 0.05, compared with control.
