Masson trichrome staining was performed on cross-sections of myocardium treated with PGS scaffold alone (A), or patches generated by RCM alone (B) or in co-culture with either control (C) or VEGF-expressing (D) SM. Thickness of infarction (E), patch plus capsule (F) and underlying myocardium (G) were measured on Masson trichrome sections for all the groups. Black dashed lines mark the boundary between the patch and the infarcted tissue. * denotes p<0.01. Scale bars = 200 µm.
