A, pairwise and multiple amino acid sequence alignments of human talin rod helix 50 (residues 2077-2101) with talin from different species. Sequences of talin were obtained from the NBCI protein data base: Human (Homo sapiens, accession number NP_006280.2); Mouse (Mus musculus, accession number NP_035732.1); Chicken (Gallus gallus, accession number AAN75275.1); Nematode (Caenorhabditis elegans, accession number AAA74747.1); Fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster, accession number AAG22814.1); and Zebrafish (Danio rerio, accession number AAV41376.1). The alignment was performed by means of the ClustalW algorithm. 100% conservation is indicated by green shading. Negatively charged amino acids are indicated in red, positively charged residues in blue, and uncharged residues in black. Residues Lys-2085 and Lys-2089 are highlighted by stars. B, talin helix 50 modeled as an ideal helical structure. Amino acids Lys-2085 and Lys-2089, both positioned on the same face of the helix, are indicated.
