Figure 2.

The right fusiform face effect. The right fusiform gyrus face effect for adults and children was evident in (a) a main effect of Faces > All Categories (shoes, letters, and numbers) in an ANOVA (P < 0.05, corrected) and (b) an ROI analysis in which voxels were selected based on their average response across all categories (faces, shoes, letters, and numbers) > scrambled. The center of this ROI in both children and adults (x, y, z: 44, −48, −20) was within 7 mm of the face-selective ROI reported in Downing et al. (2006). The light gray bars within the data from 4-year-olds represent children with motion estimates equal to those of adults (these data are equivalent to the full 4-year-old sample).
