Linkage of Hrl to the p55 locus. Progeny from a (B6 × p55−/− N5)F1 × p55−/− N5 N2 backcross were challenged with 10 times the LD50 of HSV-1. Susceptibility (A) and resistance (B) correlated with homozygosity and heterozygosity, respectively, for the p55 null mutation (−/− and +/−) as determined by PCR on tail DNA samples, and this correlation was statistically significant (C).
