Iron-chelated growth of E. coli 1017 transformed with plasmids carrying various yiu genes. Strains were grown in NB supplemented with 50 μM DIP at 37°C. The vector plasmid for all constructs was pWSK29. + Fe indicates growth of E. coli (pWSK29) with 25 μM FeCl3. The following plasmids were used: pYIU2 (yiuABCR+), pYIU3 (yiuABC+), pYIU4 (yiuA+), pYIU5 (yiuBC+), and pYIU6 (yiuR+). The growth curves shown represent one of two independent experiments that yielded similar results.
