CIE treatment increases ethanol intake in the 2-bottle choice paradigm. The average ethanol intake (g/kg, left axis) of CIE treated animals (n=35) was significantly increased after the second and third CIE cycle, indicating that CIE treatment induced ethanol dependence in these animals. Water consumption (ml/kg, right axis) was not influenced by CIE treatment in the same animals. Similarly, water consumption of control animals (n=20) remained stable and was not affected by air exposure in the vapor chambers. *p<0.05 compared to baseline drinking.
